The Denver Post and 9 News put out a series of polls about Colorado politics. There were a couple of interesting results that I'd like to share.
Coloradans support passing an Arizona-style immigration law 61 to 34. Even more interesting is that Colorado Hispanics support passing the the law 62 to 31. It looks like immigration might be a really good issue for Republicans to pull in Hispanic voters. I don't expect these numbers to prevent Democrats from calling people racist for supporting the issue, though. It's such a simple way of telling Republicans to shut up.
In the race for Governor, Scott McInnis is leading Dan Maes by 28 points going into the Primary despite Maes squeaking out a win at the state Republican assembly. That's a lot of ground to make up before the August primary. I doubt that he can do it with so little time left.
That might be good news for Republicans, though. Maes only has a one point lead over John Hickenlooper. McInnis, on the other hand, is up by four. This pretty well jives with the Rasmussen poll from last week which has McInnis up by six and Maes tied with Hickenlooper.
In the Senate race, Ken Buck has opened up a sizable lead over Jane Norton. There's still time for Norton to make up the 16 points but, like Maes, I think the hill might be too high to climb this late in the game. The Democrat side looks about the same. Michael Bennet has a 17 point lead over Andrew Romanoff.
Anything can happen between now and August but it looks like the election in November will be between Bennet and Buck. The Denver Post poll puts Buck up 46 to 43 over Bennet. That match up is interesting because Buck has been running as an "outsider" as has Bennet. Unfortuntately for Bennet, the news that Obama tried to bribe Romanoff to stay out of the race puts Bennet squarely in the "insider" camp. That's not good given Obama's 52 percent unfavorable rating in Colorado.
